A Healthier 2026 Starts with One Small Change — Here’s Where to Begin

Do Something Today Your Future Self Will Thank You For.

You don’t need a perfect plan, a strict routine, or a January 1 reset to start improving your health. One small, consistent action is enough to build momentum — and the McCamey Wellness Center gives you an easy place to begin.

McCamey Wellness Center Director Clarissa Mosley highlights how simple it can be to take small, easy steps toward a healthier way of living.

“People think they have to overhaul their entire lifestyle to get healthier. You don’t. One small step today is better than a perfect plan you never start,” Clarissa said.

Whether you’re trying to get back into movement after a long break or looking to feel more energized going into the new year, here are simple, realistic ways to get started now.

Start With Just 10 Minutes of Movement

A short walk is one of the easiest ways to reset your body and mind. The indoor track at the McCamey Wellness Center gives you a safe, weather-proof space to move — whether it’s your warm-up, cool-down, or your entire workout.

Clarissa sees the benefits every day. “A lot of people come in thinking they have to do a full hour. But 10 minutes on the track turns into 15, then 20. Small steps build confidence, and confidence builds consistency,” she said.

Choose One Activity You Actually Enjoy

You don’t need to force yourself into workouts that don’t fit you.

Try a class. Try the bikes. Try the sauna for recovery. Try a short lift.

Finding something you like — or at least don’t dread — is the key to sticking with it.

“We offer a variety of classes because every body is different,” Clarissa said. “If you enjoy what you’re doing, even a little, you’re much more likely to keep showing up.”

Start Strength Training Without Intimidation

Strength training helps with energy, mobility, sleep, and long-term health — especially for adults in their 20s and 30s.

If you’re new to it, start light and keep it simple. The Wellness Center’s trainers can walk you through equipment, show you proper form, and build a routine you can actually maintain.

Clarissa sees beginners advancing all the time, and many taking their own approaches that work.

“Your first workout doesn’t have to look like anyone else’s,” she said. “We’ll help you start safely, confidently, and at your pace.”

Use Movement for Stress Relief

December is stressful. Movement helps.

A quick walk, a slow stretch, or a low-impact class can reset your mood and improve your sleep — two things most people need more of this time of year.

“Exercise isn’t just physical,” Clarissa said. “It clears your head. It helps you think better, sleep better, and feel better. Even simple movement can change your entire day.”

Let Consistency Be Your Only Goal

You don’t need intensity. You need repetition.

Small, daily actions add up — and starting now makes January easier, not harder.

Clarissa encourages members to take the pressure off: “Just show up. That’s it. Don’t worry about being perfect. Consistency is what creates results. Your future self will thank you for every small step you take today.”
