Kristen Upchurch Recognized Among the Region’s Top Nursing Professionals

Kristen Upchurch, RN, BSN, chief nursing officer for McCamey County Hospital District has been named to the 2025 West Texas Great 25 Nurses list, the region’s most respected recognition of nursing excellence.

“Kristen represents the best of nursing leadership,” said Mo Sheldon, CEO, McCamey County Hospital District. “Her dedication to our patients and her steady leadership of our nursing team have strengthened the quality of care we provide every day. This honor is well deserved and reflects her deep commitment to the people of Upton County and the surrounding communities.”

Born and raised in Odessa, Kristen has built her career serving West Texas families with compassion, professionalism, and an unwavering focus on quality. As chief nursing officer at McCamey County Hospital, she has been central to improving nursing practices, supporting the growth and development of staff, and advancing a positive, patient-centered care environment.

Now in its tenth year, the West Texas Great 25 Nurses program recognizes nurses who demonstrate excellence in clinical practice, leadership, education, and patient advocacy across rural and urban settings. The program was founded by Dr. Valerie Kiper to celebrate nursing professionals who consistently exceed expectations and elevate the standard of care in their communities.

Kristen was honored on October 16 at the annual Great 25 celebration, joining a distinguished group of nurses recognized for their lasting contributions to healthcare across West Texas.
