McCamey County Hospital District Promotes Orlando Villanueva, RN to Chief Nursing Officer

Orlando Villanueva, RN is transitioning from Emergency Department Director to Chief Nursing Officer.

Villanueva was promoted to the CNO role in May. Villanueva brings a strong background in emergency care, critical care nursing, and first responder leadership. He has more than nine years of experience as a critical care registered nurse and 24 years of experience as a licensed paramedic. Before moving into healthcare leadership, he served 22 years with Odessa Fire Rescue, retiring as a Fire Captain.

“Orlando brings a unique combination of nursing experience, emergency services leadership, and a deep understanding of what it takes to care for patients in high-pressure situations,” said Mo Sheldon, FACHE, CEO of McCamey County Hospital District. “His background and dedication to rural healthcare will serve our patients, staff, and community well as he steps into this important leadership role.”

As Chief Nursing Officer, Villanueva will help lead nursing operations across the hospital and clinic, support clinical quality and patient care initiatives, and work with hospital and clinic leadership to strengthen care delivery for McCamey and the surrounding communities.

“I am honored to step into the Chief Nursing Officer role,” said Villanueva. “My background in emergency services, critical care nursing, and rural healthcare leadership has shaped the way I approach patient care and team support. I look forward to continuing to serve this organization, our staff, and the community.”

We also extend our appreciation to Kristen Upchurch, BSN, RN, for her years of leadership and service as Chief Nursing Officer.

“We are grateful for Kristen’s commitment to McCamey County Hospital District and the care she helped support during her time as CNO,” said Sheldon. “Her leadership has been an important part of our organization, and we thank her for her service.”
