If you have Medicare coverage, you’re entitled to free annual wellness visits. These visits are perfect opportunities to focus on prevention and review your overall health and wellness. These visits are different from a physical exam or other medical visits with your care team.

About your one-time “Welcome to Medicare” Visit:

Within the first 12 months of enrolling in Medicare Part B, you can schedule a Welcome to Medicare visit.

What to expect from your initial Welcome to Medicare Visit:

  • Health risk assessment

  • Height, weight, and blood pressure measurements

  • A calculation of your body mass index (BMI)

  • A simple vision test

  • A review of your potential risk for depression and your level of safety

  • An offer to talk with you about creating advance directives

  • A written plan for screenings, shots, and other preventive services you may need

  • Details about coverage for preventive services

  • Depending on your health and medical history, further tests may be ordered
