Department of Transportation Physicals
Hit the road safely with a thorough DOT physical at McCamey Rural Health Clinic.
Our clinic providers follow the specific guidelines of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration to administer required Department of Transportation physical exams for commercial motor vehicle drivers.
DOT physicals help determine if a driver is physically, mentally, and emotionally fit to operate a commercial motor vehicle.
What to expect from a DOT physical:
- Questions about your medical history
- Complete physical exam, including vision and hearing check
- Urinalysis
Prepare for your DOT physical:
If you are a commercial driver, be sure to bring a complete list of medications and your primary physician’s information. If you have trouble seeing or hearing, make sure to bring all aids, such as eyeglasses or hearing aids, to the test to be properly examined. Drivers with diabetes must also bring their most recent lab results and a list of their medical history.
How long do certifications last?
Unless an issue is found, a DOT medical certification is good for two years, but people with extreme medical conditions may have their certification shortened to a year in certain cases. It is important to remember to get this certification renewed every two years, as failure to do so could strip your ability to drive in the future.
After passing the physical, you will be given a certificate and a copy to pass along to your employer.
