McCamey County Hospital District has appointed Mo Sheldon, FACHE, as its new chief executive officer. Sheldon brings more than 25 years of rural healthcare leadership experience, with a record of strengthening hospitals, expanding community-focused services, and improving operational performance across Texas, Washington, and Arizona.
Sheldon has dedicated her career to rural health since 1995, serving in executive roles at multiple Critical Access Hospitals and health districts. Most recently, she served as CEO of Northern Cochise Community Hospital and Clinics in Willcox, Arizona, where she led pandemic response efforts, drove significant improvements in financial stability, enhanced compliance and quality programs, and secured federal funding for key facility upgrades. Before that, she served as superintendent/CEO of Odessa Memorial Healthcare Center in Washington, where she guided a strategic shift toward population health, strengthened quality measures, and supported statewide efforts to protect rural hospital access.
Her Texas background includes senior leadership roles at Glen Rose Medical Center and Matagorda County Hospital District. At Glen Rose, she oversaw hospital operations, physician employment strategy, long-term care services, and key diagnostic program expansions. Her tenure in Texas shaped her commitment to rural healthcare leadership and community-centered service delivery.
“I have a deep appreciation for the unique challenges rural hospitals face and the opportunities they have to make a meaningful impact,” Sheldon said. “My strongest skillset lies with hospitals and affiliated clinics, and I believe passionately in collaborative leadership that supports staff, patients, and the broader community.”
Sheldon is a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives and a Licensed Nursing Facility Administrator. Her professional affiliations include service on multiple rural health committees, public policy groups, and community organizations. Her operational strengths span clinical operations, case management, quality management, regulatory compliance, board relations, and strategic growth.
“Mo has a track record of improving quality, stabilizing operations, and expanding services in rural hospitals. We are excited for the expertise she brings and the positive impact she will have on our patients and staff,” said Dwayne Duncan, board chair of McCamey County Hospital District.
In addition to her professional experience, Sheldon expressed a strong personal connection to returning to Texas. “I have an affinity for the elderly and the unique needs within rural communities. I am excited about the opportunity to support the mission of MCHD and to be closer to my two daughters in North Texas,” she said.
Sheldon will oversee all district operations, including McCamey County Hospital, McCamey Rural Health Clinic, McCamey Wellness Center, and the McCamey Convalescent Center.
