Preparing for your annual physical exam

Regular physical exams give you more control over your health and are one of the best ways to keep your health and wellness on track.

What you can expect during your exam:
  • A review of your health history.
  • A head-to-toe exam to identify and pro-actively address any concerns.
  • An overview of your medications to ensure they are working and being taken properly.
  • Up-to-date information on your recommended immunizations.
  • Blood tests for certain conditions or other lab work as needed.
  • Your provider may recommend appropriate screenings and tests.
  • Time to discuss any of your health and wellness concerns.
How to prepare for an annual exam:
  • After scheduling a visit, ask if you should arrive with an empty stomach or if there is anything else you should do prior to your appointment.
  • Make a list of any health concerns or questions you want to discuss.
  • Make a list of all medications you take, including prescriptions, over-the-counter drugs, vitamins, and supplements, and note how often and how much you take of each. These may interact with your medications.
  • Provide a family medical history with as much detail as possible.
  • Provide a list of all health care providers involved in your care.
